Involve UN in trial process
Sector Commanders' Forum (SCF) President Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandaker yesterday said the message from the discussion between the foreign adviser and the UN Secretary General on the issue of the trial of war criminals is not clear.
"However, we are pleased that the issue has been discussed at the UN," he said.
The war hero said the government must raise the issue at the UN to involve the world body in the process for the trial of war criminals.
If the UN gets involved in the process, the trial will be acceptable to all and the next governments would not reject the trial, he said at a discussion meeting at Pakulla in Mirzapur as the chief guest.
Freedom fighters of the upazila organised the discussion to mark the 37th anniversary of Goran-Satiachara Resistance Day.
The SCF president also said those who feel proud to introduce themselves as razakars like Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury are mentally ill.
Former Awami League lawmaker Dr Abdur Razzak Bhola, Workers' Party leader Hazera Sultana, Secretary of Peshajibi Samannaya Parishad Dr Kamrul Hassan, Tangail AL President Shamsur Rahman Khan Shajahan, secretary Fazlur Rahman Faruque and freedom fighter Khandakar Abdul Baten also spoke at the discussion presided over by former AL lawmaker Ekabbar Hossain.
