School chess
India's Suvradeepta Das took solo lead in Group A of the 13th Standard Chartered School Chess Tournament at the close of the fifth round at the National Sports Council Tower yesterday.
Suvradeepta beat Wahidul Alam of Rangamati Shaheed Abdul Ali Academy to secure maximum five points from five matches.
Three players -- Akib Jawad of Chittagong, Rafsan Bin Omar of Government Science School and Prajapati Raj of Nepal – shared second position with 4.5 points each in Group A which features players from class VI to X.
Former national sub-junior champion Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Gemcon group took solo lead in Group B (class I to V) with maximum five points after he beat Jamim Al Hamid of Moulvibazar Lily Children Academy. Mahmud Sharif Mowla of Motijheel Ideal School & College was in second position in the same group with 4.5 points.
In Group C (girls), Tanzina Akter Tani of Motijheel Central Govt. Girls School leads the points table with maximum five points after winning the board against Tiasa in the fifth round.
Five players shared the second position in the same group with four points.
