University of Asia Pacific celebrates Victory Day
Teachers and students of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) celebrated the 41st Victory Day through discussions, storytelling and cultural programme at its auditorium on December 17th. Invited freedom fighters, along with teachers - spoke on the Liberation War, while students took part in the cultural programme featuring songs and dance performances on the theme of the war.
Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury urged the invited freedom fighters to share their inspiring experiences from the battlefield with the young students.
The guests, engineer Komol Siddiqui (Bir Uttam) and Shahzaman Majumder (Bir Protik), shared some intriguing war-time moments from with the students. Engineer Siddiqui revealed how he prevented a Pakistani convoy from entering a village, how he stopped a Pakistani patrol from reaching diesel to their den and finally how he suffered bullet injuries in the head on December 15, 1971.
Majumder shared how he escaped from home and joined the Liberation forces. Majumder was only 16 in 1971 and is the youngest Freedom Fighter to receive the honour 'Bir Protik'. He said that he was mistaken as a Pakistani spy by the freedom fighters en route to joining them. Later one of his senior neighbours Major Mahbub recognised and saved him.
The students then performed patriotic songs and a dance number.
The programme ended with the rendition of the group song “Purba Diganteyâ€.
