Eid Boi Utsab '12 ends
Visitors at the book festival.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Amader Shomoy and Labaid Group in association with publication houses Bhashachitra and Bangamoy jointly arranged a book fair, titled “Eid Boi Utsab-2012”. The weeklong book fair was on at the open premises of Central Public Library, Shahbagh in Dhaka. The festival also featured poetry recitation, art contest, film screening and discussion.
The fair was inaugurated on October 17 by veteran columnist and journalist ABM Musa as chief guest. Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of Bangla Academy and Dr. A.M. Shamim, managing director of Labaid Group, attended the inaugural programme as special guests.
The fair featured a rich collection of books from a total of 28 noted publication houses -- Agami Prokashoni, Oitijhya, Charulipi, Jagriti, Nalanda, Barnayon, Bangla Prokash, Bhashachitra, Muktadesh, Murdhanya, Ramon Publishers, Srabon Prokashoni, Somoy Prokashon, Suchipatra, Ananya, Anindya Prokash, Adorn Publications, Sadar Prokashoni, Pathok Somabesh, Hakkani Publishers, Rakamari Dot Com and Little Mag Corner.
On the second day (October 18) of the fair, a two-day workshop on reading and writing was held at the venue. A total of 50 enthusiastic participants attended the workshop.
On the fifth day (October 21) of the festival, a discussion was held at the Seminar Room of Public Library. Poets, writers, readers, publishers and journalists took part at the discussion. The speakers emphasised on publishing more creative and research oriented writings. They also discussed about varied aspects of contemporary Bangladeshi literature. Author Andaleeb Rashdi; rhymesters Alam Talukdar, Aminul Islam, Suchi Syed; publishers Rabin Ahsan, Khandokar Sohel, Khan Mahbub, Foysal Arefin and others took part in the discussion.
