Cultural competition for BRAC school students
The divisional level 'Deepshikha', a cultural competition for BRAC primary and pre-primary school students, ended at Begum Sufia Kamal Learning Centre in BRAC's Barisal regional office on September 24.
Fifty-eight competitors from six districts of Barisal participated in dance, song, recitation and painting categories.
The prize giving ceremony conducted by Zebunnesa Lucy, area manager of BRAC education programme, was addressed among others by Md. Nurul Amin, Divisional Commissioner; Syed Sohel Ahmed, in charge, BRAC Learning Centre Barisal; Zakir Hossain, regional manager of Deepshikha Faridpur; Ripan Chandra Mandal, representative of Barisal district BRAC and Kawsar Hossain, divisional coordinator of UNICEF.
'Deepshikha' is an initiative by BRAC Education Programme to tap children's talents. The competition began at the grassroots level in February 2011.
It was aimed to prepare the children for competing by developing their skills and intellect, the organisers said.
Besides regular curriculum, BRAC school students are also involved in extra-curricular activities like singing, dancing, acting, drawing and recitation. Teachers help them to learn these skills by introducing an element of fun, they added.
