Students test English skills


A daylong English Language Fair was held in five schools of Rangamati and Rangpur districts on Thursday.
The Daily Star and Robi jointly organised the fair to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English.
Our Rangamati correspondent reports: Some 100 students of Lakers' Public School and Shah Bohumukhi High School in Rangamati town took part in the fair.
The English teacher of Lakers' Public School, Sayeda Farhana, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at around 12:30pm.
The students then participated in quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, extempore speech, role playing and one word and quick questions.
Shahid Abdul Ali Academy English teacher Debabar Chakma, Shah Bohumukhi High School teacher Utpal Chakma and Lakers' Public School's teachers Imam Hossain, Liton Dev and Tusher Kanti Deb also spoke at the fair.
Our correspondent from Rangpur reports: Over 200 students of Rangpur Government Girl's High School, Rangpur Zila School and Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad High School in Rangpur district took part in the fair.
The girl's school's Headmistress Kohinur Begum inaugurated the fair at around 2:00pm.
The fair began with the screening of a movie, The Lion King. Afterwards, quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role playing and writing picture descriptions were held based on the movie.
The students also entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs.
Afterwards, assistant English teacher of the girl's school, Sultana Lailun Naher, distributed the prizes among the winners.
Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner.
