Victims of 'online fraud' stage protest in C'nawabganj

Police arrested a local coordinator of an online outsourcing company at Batenkhan intersection in Chapainawabganj town on Saturday night on charge of swindling people.
The arrestee is Sohel Rana,28, son of Ruhul Amin of Namoshankarbati village under Chapainwabganj municipality.
Golam Mortuza, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, said they arrested Sohel Rana, owner of Renaissance Digital Studio at Batenkhan intersection, following a case filed by one Shariful Islam.
Shariful alleged that Sohel Rana, local coordinator of onlineaddclick.net, swindled TK 79.44 lakh out of him and his three friends. He said they gave him (Sohel) the money to open accounts in their names.
Police yesterday produced Sohel Rana in a court that sent him to jail.
Hearing the news, over 100 clients of onlineaddclick.net formed a human chain in front of the deputy commissioner's office demanding punishment of Sohel and his accomplices for swindling them.
Shamim Kawsar of Dariapur area of Chapainawabganj town, said he and 22 others invested TK 2.10 lakh but earned only Tk 30,000.
Masum Billah of Ranihati village in Shibganj upazila said he became a client of the company three months ago and invested Tk 70,000. “The company cheated me,” he alleged.
According to the aggrieved investors, online addclick.net started its business in Chapainawabganj district in January this year.
They alleged that at least 750 people, including students, were cheated by Sohel and his accomplices. They swindled at least TK 1.25 crore out of the investors.
