Huge VoIP equipment seized in Ctg
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday seized huge illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment from an apartment owned by Khalilur Rahman, chairman of KDS Group, and arrested one person in this connection.
The arrestee, identified as Md Amanullah, 23, said that he has been doing illegal VoIP business for the last two years using different cyber cafes.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 raided the apartment at the top floor of the four-storied building at Sugandha Residential Area at around 5:00pm and seized the equipment worth over Tk 20 lakh.
The seized equipment include 6 quintums, 60 cellular sets, three media converters, one IPS and huge cables.
This is the second time that illegal VoIP equipment are seized from a property of KDS Chairman Rahman.
Rab on September 28 last year hauled a large quantity of VoIP equipment worth over Tk 5 crore from KDS Accessories and Packaging Factory, another large industry of the prominent industrialist, also a former first vice president of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Hearing the news, the KDS chairman hurried to the spot and told reporters that he had no link with the illegal VoIP business, rather the tenants of the building are solely responsible for that.
Rab sources, however, said they were examining who were actually involved in the business.
