The youth brand of Grameenphone, djuice, in association with BAMBA (Bangladesh Musical Bands Association) organised a concert at Gulshan Youth Club, Dhaka, on September 1.
Titled “DRockStars for Flood Victims”, the concert was an initiative to raise funds for the people affected by the recent flood.
Apart from the finalist bands of DRockstars -- Dour, Dreek, Bortoman, Eclipse, Radio Active and Power Surge, the concert also featured performances by eight members of BAMBA -- Miles, Souls, Dolchut, Black, Aurthohin, Pentagon, Trap and Maqsud O Dhaka. This was the first major concert where the six finalist bands of the ongoing talent hunt programme participated.
The programme was divided into two segments. The first half featured the six Drockstars bands. The first band to perform was Dour; Dreek and Bortoman followed. Next in line were Eclipse and Radio Active. Power Surge delivered an electrifying performance starting with Metallica's Enter Sandman. The band mainly played thrash metal songs, which generated a huge response from the audience. The performance by Radio Active was also noteworthy.
“BAMBA has been organising fundraisers since 1987. During every major disaster, Bangladeshi bands have always come forward and this year is no different,” said Hamin Ahmed, president of BAMBA.
“Apart from generating funds for relief, another purpose of this event is to introduce the DRockstars finalists to a live performance. Anyone can vote for his/her favourite band through sms -- revenue earned from the sms will also be donated to relief for flood victims,” he added.
Dolchut opened the second session. This was their first public appearance after a yearlong break. Bappa Majumdar performed three songs starting with his recent hit Aaj tomar mon kharap.
Speaking at the event, Bappa said, “Many organisations have held several fundraisers this year, but putting together such an event means only half the job is done. The organisers should ensure that people who need it the most are getting it and also look into proper expenditure of the funds.”
Sharing his feelings Partho Barua of Souls said, “It is our moral duty to do something for our fellow countrymen. The people living in the flood-hit regions are in desperate need of help and everyone should come forward and contribute according to the best of their ability.”
Though the turnout was lesser than expected, the event was an enjoyable one.
