20 injured as villagers clash
At least 30 people, including a sub-inspector of police, were injured during a clash between two groups of villagers at a Baishakhi mela (fair) in Bataigram upazila of the district yesterday.
Police said at least 20 shops were damaged and a motorbike of the cop was vandalised during the clash that continued for two hours from 12:00 noon.
Police and witnesses said two groups of villagers of Rajandrapur and Dasgram scuffled over a trivial matter at the mela on Friday evening.
As a sequel to the incident, both groups equipped with lethal weapons swooped on each other at the mela yesterday, leaving at least, 29 people from both sides in injured.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, used truncheons to disperse the clashing groups. Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin received minor injury during the clash. He was given first aid at a local clinic.
Ten of the injured were admitted to upazila health complex and different clinics at Natore while the rest given first aid.
No case was filed with Bataigram Police Station as of filing of this report at 5:30 pm yesterday.
