Ctg Jamaat leader arrested
A leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was arrested from Silimpur area in Sitakunda upazila in the port city yesterday on charge of planning subversive activities.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Double Mooring thana unit Jamaat Ameer Omar Azam when he was holding a "secret meeting" at the house of Babul Hoque at 12noon.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, some 10 to 12 followers of Omar fled the scene, said Nur Mohammad, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station.
The OC said as police had an information that Azam was holding the meeting to commit some subversive activities.
While asked by police, Omar failed to give a satisfactory explanation about the meeting, the OC said.
He was being quizzed at the police station.
