Mamunur Rashid honoured in his home district

Prominent dramatist and actor Mamunur Rashid was given a warm reception at his ancestral home in Ghatail upazila, under Tangail district on Wednesday. The event celXebrated Rashid's Ekushey Padak win.
The reception was held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium, under the banner of 'Amra Ghatail-bashi' (people of Ghatail).
Mamunur Rashid, in his speech, said that Bangladeshi theatre will have to make a mark on the global stage and theatre activists have been working towards that goal.
He emphasised on the need for more theatre venues in every upazila of the country to generate public interest in and wider practice of the art form.
Ghatail Upazila Parishad Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan presided over the function.
Among others, secretary, central unit of Peshajibi Samonnay Parishad, Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan; Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Ghatail, Aleya Begum and Jamuria Union Parishad chairman Shahidul Islam Khan addressed the function.
Students of Mukul Academy, a local secondary school, gave a guard of honour to Mamunur Rashid.
Mamunur Rashid was born in Bhabandatta village, Ghatail upazila, Tangail district on February 29, 1948. He started writing plays in the 1960s and is still very active in the contemporary theatre scene.
He received Ekushey Padak 2012 for his immense contribution to the country's cultural arena.
