Two Benapole labour union leaders hurt in bomb attack
Two leaders of Benapole Port Handling Workers' Union were injured in a bomb attack yesterday afternoon.
Ziaul Haque Zia, general secretary of the labour union and office secretary Sayeed Hossain were admitted to Jessore Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
The incident took place in front of the town's Islami Bank branch around 1:00pm.
Sayeed's father claimed that a rival group opposing the newly formed 31-member committee of the union might have committed the crime.
Union sources said, workers split into two feuding groups after the commerce ministry formed the committee with Golam Mostafa and Zia as its president and general secretary without holding any election.
Rival group of workers rejected the committee saying that they want to elect their leaders through vote, they said.
Following the conflict, local administration imposed Section 144 at the union office yesterday to avoid any violence.
