Gruesome killing of youth by outlaws triggers protest
Gruesome killing of a youth allegedly by outlawed Sarbahara Party's local leader Awal and his accomplices in broad daylight at village Piarpur in Sreepur upazila on Saturday has not only sent a wave of panic among the people in the area but also triggered violent protest.
Agitated people, failing to set fire to the houses of the culprits, vandalised three of those in the early hours of yesterday.
They also staged procession in the area yesterday morning demanding immediate arrest of Awal and his accomplices.
Meanwhile, a few villagers were seen fleeing the village yesterday fearing retaliation and further clash in the area.
Nazmul Hasan, 24, was hacked to death by the gang led by outlaw Awal on Saturday. Two others -- Zakir Hossain, 20, and Hamidul Haque, 18, -- were critically injured as they were also hacked with sharp weapon when they tried to resist the gang. Both were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital.
Police and locals said, the gang led by the local leader of outlawed outfit Sarbahara Party in broad daylight cut off the tendons of Nazmul's both legs as he reportedly helped police to arrest Zillur, another accomplice of Awal. Son of Abdus Sattar of adjoining Mortojapur village, Zillur is accused in several criminal cases.
Nazmul succumbed to his injuries at about 6:30pm when he was being shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated at Magura Sadar Hospital.
Meanwhile in Pabna, police arrested two outlawed operatives of PBCP (Purba Banglar Communist Party) Janajudhha faction from Dhulauri village of Santhia upazila early yesterday and seized two firearms, 6 bullets and sharp weapons from their possession, reports our correspondent.
