Maya's son sent to jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Sajedul Hossain alias Dipu Chowdhury, son of Awami League leader Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, to jail in a graft case in which he was earlier sentenced to three years' imprisonment in absentia.
Judge Monir Ahmed Patwari of the Special Judge's Court-7 passed the order after he surrendered to the court in presence of his lawyers and sought bail.
On April 10 of 2008, Judge Sirajul Islam of the same court sentenced Dipu to three years' imprisonment and fined him Tk 5 lakh for amassing wealth illegally and for failing to submit his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
