Packeer arrives to coach Sheikh Jamal

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club could have celebrated the arrival of its new coach Packeer Ali of Sri Lanka through a victory but his new charges greeted him with a defeat in the Bangladesh League.
Packeer Ali, who was a well-known footballer in Bangladesh in 80s and played for Abahani and PWD, saw his new charges suffer a single-goal defeat to Arambagh after coming to the venue straight from the airport.
The 57-year-old coach watched the first-half of the game from the gallery and sat with the players in the second half but he could not bring any joy to the boys.
“They played well throughout the game but they lacked finishing upfront,” was the initial observation of Packeer Ali, who coached PWD, Abahani and Mohammedan SC.
However, the former defender believes that Sheikh Jamal still has a good chance to win the league as only four matches out of 22 matches have been played.
Asked whether he knows the reason behind the termination of Serbian coach Zoran Kraljevic, Packeer Ali said he had not idea about it but he would discuss with the team management about the team selection.
“I will consult with the team management about the team but the final decision will be mine,” said the shaven-headed coach adding that coaches in Asia often falls foul of the team management because of an absence of professionalism.
