Khoka, 12 others get bail in graft case
The High Court (HC) yesterday granted anticipatory bail for four months to Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and 12 other officials in a corruption case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on June 29 against them on charge of illegally recruiting a huge number of officials and employees to DCC through illegal ways from October 18, 2006 to November 20, 2006.
An HC bench of Justice Afzal Hossain Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz also issued a rule upon the government and ACC to explain within three weeks why the accused should not be granted regular bail in the case.
The court passed the order following two separate petitions filed by the DCC mayor and officials seeking bail in the case.
The petitioners appeared before the HC bench yesterday for anticipatory bail.
