Nazrul birth anniversary celebrations held
A three-day national celebration, organised by Jatiya Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal to mark the 111th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, concluded recently.
The university undertook elaborate programmes at its campus, which included discussions, cultural shows and competitions for children, a debate, book fair and photo exhibition on Nazrul.
To celebrate this momentous day, a colourful rally was brought out at the campus. The students and teachers of the university also placed floral wreaths at the portrait of the poet.
The students of the Bengali and Music departments staged three plays “Kobi Nazrul”, “Aghnigiri” and “Padma Ghokhro”. Meanwhile, teachers of the Fine Arts Department of the university, Mohmmad Shafin Omar, Dulal Chandra Gain, Mohammad Rashed and Tapon Kumar Sarker arranged an exhibition of their paintings at the campus, which wore a festive look.
Professor Mohammad Abdul Quaium, a Nazrul researcher inaugurated the programmes as chief guest at 'Gahi Sammyer Gaan Moncha' at the campus. Vice-Chancellor of JKKNIU, Professor Giasuddin Ahmed presided over the function, while treasurer of the university Professor Mohammad Aynul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
Professor Razia Sultana and Professor Abu Hena Abdul Awal, presented two papers on Nazrul's works. Three lectures on Nazrul were also presented at the session, with Professor Abdul Khalque in the chair. Dr. Mohammad Emdadul Huda, Professor Afzalur Rahman Bhuiyan and poet Farid Ahmed Dulal also took part in the discussion.
At the first session of the second programme, advocate Reza Ali, MP was present as chief guest, with the university vice-chancellor in the chair. Later the chief guest distributed prizes among 50 winners of a cultural competition for children.
Two discussions were held on the second day of the celebration, presided over by poet Nurul Huda and Professor Moniruzzaman. Marzia Akhtar, Dr. Sumitra Shekhar, Ahmed Shakil Hashmi and Dr. Rahman Habib were the discussants.
On the concluding day, papers on Nazrul, including “Nazrul in Writing Bengali Ghazals”, “Nazrul in Bengali Drama” and Film” were also presented, chaired by Professor Shafiqun Nabi. Idris Ali, Jahidul Kabir, Rashidun Nabi and Anupom Hayat, among others who took part in the discussion.
Professor Sarifa Salua Dina, Raihana Akhtar, Dr. Amrita Lal Bala and Dr. Mohammad Ataur Rahman took part in another discussion on Nazrul Literature. Professor Rafiqul Islam presided over.
The speakers at the discussions said that Nazrul's contribution to Bengali literature is priceless and Nazrul will find a permanent place in people's hearts.
The speakers also expressed their gratitude to Kazi Rafiz Uddin of Kazir Shimla who first brought Nazrul in Bangladesh. The speakers added that the university established after his name is a sign of our love for the Bard.
Nazrul University Sammanona was also given to eminent personality and Nazrul researcher Professor Abdul Quaium and Nazrul Sangeet veteran Sudhin Das for their brilliant contribution in the field.
