CCC ward witnesses test run of e-voting
The dry run e-voting started at Jamalkhan (ward-21) in Chittagong yesterday to make voters acquainted with the electronic voting system.
Election Commission is going to introduce the system for the first time in Chittagong City Corporation election scheduled for June 17. Voters of only Jamalkhan ward will cast their vote under the system in the CCC poll.
However, presence of voters was very thin on the first day of the two-day mock voting at eight polling centres of the ward.
At Dr Khastagir Girls' High School, Public Administration Centre and National Primary School polling centres locals were seen trying out the system with great interest.
Ashim Biswas, a voter of Dewanjeepukurpar who came with his mother at Khastagir School centre, hailed the Election Commission for launching the system.
He said the e-voting was easier than the manual system.
EC Secretary Humayun Kabir and Returning Officer of CCC poll Jesmin Tuli visited different centres.
Humayun Kabir told reporters that they are going to launch the system on a very limited scale and would expand it gradually.
Regarding poor presence of voters in the mock voting, Kabir said if necessary the EC might arrange such mock voting again before the CCC polls.
