HC bar on holding FFs' dist, UZ unit polls
The High Court (HC) in a verdict on Wednesday restricted holding elections to district and upazila units of Muktijoddha Sangsad Command Council (MSCC) on June 26.
It, however, ruled that the election to the central MSCC would be held on June 26 as per the schedule.
The MSCC election commission headed by the cabinet secretary on April 17 this year scheduled June 26 for holding elections to its central, district and upazila units.
Following a writ petition filed by Yusuf Ali and M Shahabuddin, two freedom fighters, the HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Md Delwar Hossain on Wednesday declared illegal the schedule of holding election to district and upazila units of MSCC.
Petitioner's lawyer Barrister Masood R Sobhan on Thursday told The Daily Star that the election to the district and upazila units will be held after the election to its central command council will be held on June 26 as per the HC verdict.
Upon the same writ petition, the HC earlier on April 26 stayed the process for holding election to MSCC till June 26 and issued a rule upon the government and election commission of MSCC to explain why the schedule of holding election should not be declared illegal.
