Introduce STMS

To free Dhaka from traffic congestion we are thinking of the introduction of underground and sky train services, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), elevated expressway etc. However, an easy, speedy, low cost and sustainable solution would be a Surface Train Metro Service (STMS) from Joydevpur to Narayanganj with all intersections grade separated. Double Decker Trains at every 2 to 5 minutes, as required, in this route can reduce the traffic congestion of Dhaka significantly, since most of the Dhaka's traffic generation points lie along this line. The track can be 4 lines from Kamalapur to Tongi with 2 dedicated lines for the Metro; else the central station can be shifted to Tongi. Some positive aspects of this project are:
1) The government is going to construct flyover/ overpass at six road-rail intersections; the rest can also be separated.
2) Most of the existing track has already two lines, which can easily be increased as required, since Bangladesh Railway owns necessary land along the route.
3) Fencing all-along the track, upgrading of existing stations, addition of a few new stations, electronic ticket pass, covered walkways with escalators etc. to the nearby bus stops would make the STMS excellent.
4) Multi-leg sliding sky walkways can easily be constructed to connect Motijheel, Karwan Bazar and other similar points with the nearby STMS stations.
5) The project can be implemented within two years' time at least partially and with a reasonably low cost in comparison to other mass transit options.
6) Implementation of the project will convert the rail route as the principal travel artery of Dhaka that with other options for other parts of the city would give a sustainable, clean and affordable mass transit system.
7) Implementation of the project can be a great example of Public-Private partnership in Bangladesh.
