Schoolteacher 'killed by husband'
A man allegedly strangulated his wife to death at the city's Hazaribagh on Saturday while police recovered two bodies from Jatrabari area yesterday.
Police arrested her husband Aminul Islam Swapan yesterday and took him on a four-day remand in a case filed for killing his wife Lutfunnesa Sheuli, also a teacher of Luminous Kindergarten at Hazaribagh.
Sheuli's brother Lutfor Rahman said, "Swapan informed us over phone that my sister Sheuli died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday afternoon. But we found injury marks on the throat of my sister."
"Swapan had been torturing my sister since their marriage 16 years ago," he said adding, "Swapan was dependent on my sister as he did not have any source of income and used to torture her whenever she failed to meet his demands."
Enamul Huq, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, said they have taken Swapan on remand after Sheuli's relatives filed a murder case.
Meanwhile, Jatrabari police arrested Khairul Alam on suspicion of killing 10-year-old Mohammad Nixon, son of rickshaw-van puller Abul Hossain, in Matuail under the police station.
Both the bodies were sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In another incident, the body of a young man who went missing on Thursday was found at Dhalpur in the city's Jatrabari last night.
SI Mosharraf Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station said unidentified criminals stabbed Imtiaj Hossain Ziku, 22, of Jatrabari City Palli to death and dumped the body in the area.
On information, police recovered the body at about 11:00pm.
