Barge-mounted power plant case against Hasina quashed
The High Court (HC) in a verdict yesterday quashed the proceedings against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the barge-mounted power plant corruption case filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) during the last caretaker government.
An HC bench of Justice Md Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee passed the verdict upon a petition filed by Hasina for quashing the proceedings against her.
The ACC filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station on September 2, 2007 charging Hasina and six others with corruption in setting up a barge-mounted power plant in Khulna.
The HC on July 7, 2008, stayed the proceedings against Hasina following her petition.
The court also issued a rule upon the ACC to explain why the proceedings of the case should not be quashed.
Hasina's counsel barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh yesterday told The Daily Star three separate cases against her are pending.
Separate petitions are also filed with the HC challenging the proceedings of those cases, Taposh said.
Barrister Taposh appeared for the petitioner while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for ACC.
