'Ban Jamaat politics'
Speakers at a function yesterday urged the government to immediately ban the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and their front organisations in order to restore the constitution of 1972 for establishing the spirit of War of Liberation.
The Jamaat-Shibirs have launched militant activities in the country to foil the government's move to hold trial of Razakars, Al-Badrs and Al-Shams who had committed crimes against the humanity during the War of Liberation, Muktijoddha Sangsad Chairman Abdul Ahad Chowdhury said.
He was inaugurating a month-long signature campaign for "Restoration of Constitution of 1972 and ban on politics of Jamaat-Shibir" organised by Amra Muktijoddhar Santan, an organisation of the children of freedom fighters.
Ahad Chowdhury said Golam Azam, Matiur Rahman Nizami and Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed and their followers who led the Razakars, Al-Badrs and Al-Shams during the War of Liberation are still now having dreams to make Bangladesh a mini-Pakistan.
Jobaida Haq Ajonta, president of Dhaka city unit of Amra Muktijoddhar Santan, presided over the function. Awami League lawmaker Begum Ashrafun Nesa Mosharraf, managing editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, general secretary of Bangladesh Peshajibi Samannaya Parishad Kamrul Hasan and general secretary of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanskritik Oikya Jote Hasan Arif.
