Wood & Wear, a student organisation of Fine Arts Department, Rajshahi University, is holding a three-day art and handicraft exhibition at Annoda Gobinda Public Library. The festival opened yesterday. A discussion meeting was held at the library premises yesterday morning as part of the inauguration programme.
Managing director of Universal Group Sohani Hossain inaugurated the exhibition. Among others, Uroshi Mahfila Fateha, a third year student of Fine Arts Department, RU; Umme Sawda Tithi, also from the same department and noted physician of the district, Dr. Sarwar Jahan Fayaze, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers focused on the significance of handicrafts and urged all to support this industry and the craftsmen involved with it. Handicrafts are art with function. Handicrafts reflect the traditions of a nation, they said.
There are many quality handicraft works that deserve exposure in the international market, they added.
The students of Fine Arts Department, RU also stressed the need of art galleries to display their works.
The exhibition features paintings, clay ornaments, wooden showpieces, jute products and clothes.
Five students of Fine Arts Department, RU formed the group Wood & Wear a year ago. They work with handicrafts and art.
The first exhibition by the organisation was held at RU last week.
"The aim of this exhibition is to generate interest in our work and handicrafts among people," Uroshi Mahfila Fateha, one of the organisers said.
