Armed muggers snatched Tk 11.5 lakh by shooting two persons on their way to banks in the city's Jatrabari and Mirpur yesterday.
The injured are Jhutan Saha, 30, an employee of Sifat Trading, a wholesale grocery shop at Kutubkhali in Jatrabari, and Ali Akbar, 28, a sales representative of Milk Vita.
Shafiqul Islam Badal, owner of Sifat Trading, said a gang of six criminals on three motorbikes attacked Jhutan around 12:00noon near Jatrabari Police Station while he on a rickshaw-van was on the way to Jatrabari branch of NCC Bank to deposit Tk 6.50 lakh.
"As he tried to resist the criminals, they shot him and snatched the money", he said.
Jhutan was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. The criminals pumped bullets into his chest, back and hand, hospital sources said.
The muggers might have obtained prior information, the owner of the shop said.
Meanwhile, another gang of armed criminals shot Akbar near Mirpur Bangla High School at 3:30pm when he was on the way to Mirpur section 11 branch of Sonali Bank under Pallabi Police Station to deposit Tk 6 lakh.
He was sent to DMCH with a bullet in his leg.
"The criminals took position upon having information," said Akbar.
Jatrabari and Pllabi police said they could not recover the money and none was arrested.
Besides, livestock wholesaler Golam Mostofa alias Babul received a bullet when late industrialist Mohammad Alam's son Lavlu, a drug addict, opened fire indiscriminately at Postogola yesterday afternoon.
Babul was admitted to DMCH with bullet injury to his leg.
Khokon, Lavlu's elder brother, said Lavlu started firing after he was asked to stop taking drugs.
