Seven jailed for double murder

Seven people were sentenced to jail yesterday in a sensational double murder case of Sararchar Bazar under Bazitpur upazila.
SM Abdus Salam, additional district and sessions judge of Kishoreganj court-1, in his verdict, handed down 7 years RI and fined each Tk10 thousand, in default, to suffer 6 months more in jail.
The convicts are Alam, Jasim Uddin alias Murshid, Master Mia, Abul Kalam alias Kailla, Gias Uddin, Shah Alam and Habib. Of them, Alam is in jail and the rest are absconding.
Twelve others were acquitted while three convicts died during proceedings of the case. According to the prosecution story, a gang killed Nurul Islam,55, and Ismael,20, employees of a shop on October 20, 2000 night at Sararchar Bazar and looted Tk50 thousand and gold ornaments .
