Reconstitute teacher recruitment body
A parliamentary body asked the education ministry yesterday to reconstitute the teacher recruiting committee in the wake of alleged irregularities in recruitment in government high schools.
The present government formed the committee to recruit assistant teachers.
The parliamentary standing committee on education ministry at a meeting requested the probe body to complete within a month investigation into the alleged anomalies in recruiting 1,105 employees of National University during the tenure of previous BNP-Jamaat-led government.
The parliamentary body also asked the home ministry to withdraw cases filed against teachers and students of Dhaka University due to the unrest on the university campus in August 2007. It urged the home ministry to withdraw two cases without any excuse of procedural matter.
"It is recommended that the recruitment committee be reconstituted with transparency as allegation of irregularities has been raised," Rashed Khan Menon, chairman of the standing committee told reporters after the meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
On irregularities in recruiting employees in NU, Menon, also president of Workers' Party, said, " The probe body has to submit their report before the committee by next one month."
The NU authorities formed the probe body few months ago to unearth irregularities in recruiting employees.
The committee also recommended that the proposed national education policy be finalised by this year.
It said, "To gain political influence, some quarters are deprecating the policy and confusing people with propaganda."
Menon said although importance has been given to modernise madrasa education in the new education policy, some Islamist organisations are spreading propaganda against the policy.
Besides, he mentioned that the information ministry has submitted the committee a copy of CD on DU incidents and the committee would review the footage and the information later on to come up with their decision.
