Undeclared equipment of ex-BNP MP seized
Police have traced out and seized a road roller used by construction firms owned by former BNP lawmaker Sahidul Islam's close relatives.
Shahidul, elected from Kushtia-2 (Mirpur-Bheramara) constituency, is on the run since proclamation of emergency. He is also president of Kushtia district BNP.
Sources said the Tk 22 lakh roller, kept hidden, was not mentioned in the wealth statement submitted by him.
A team from the National Coordination Committee Against Major Corruption and Crime (NCCACC) during a search in Chandipur area in Bheramara upazila on Thursday traced the roller, kept there with scraps so that it looked abandoned.
The foreign-made was in a good in condition, the sources said.
The roller was used for road carpeting by construction firms owned by Sahidul's close relatives.
The second probe in about a month into his alleged corruption began on Monday.
Sahidul is on the list of 20 top 'corruption suspects' announced by the anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in March.
Sahidul's wife Selina Sahid submitted his wealth statement to ACC on September 6.
The five-member anti-graft team comprising army officers and officials from Anti-Corruption (ACC) checked documents at different government, non-government institutions and seized those.
The Sources said ACC will file case against Sahidul after the probe.
Shahidul faces several cases for alleged corruption and extortion, filed after declaration of emergency.
