Hearing on remand for Aman Oct 12
A Dhaka court yesterday re-fixed October 12 as the date for hearing the remand and bail petitions of former BNP lawmaker Amanullah Aman in connection with an attempt-to-murder case.
The hearing, which was scheduled for yesterday, could not take place as the jail authorities could not produce him before the court due to his illness.
First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ehsanul Haque passed the order after the defence lawyers informed the court of his illness.
Meanwhile, a large number of BNP leaders and activists gathered on the court premises and they chanted slogans demanding release of Aman.
Additional police forces were deployed inside and outside the court to avoid any untoward incidents.
On September 29, the Detective Branch of Police arrested Aman at Zia International Airport in connection with the case filed by one of his party colleagues.
Aman was arrested following confessional statements given by three arrestees in this case.
Police sought a 10-day remand for quizzing Aman. But as they failed to produce case documents, the court put off the ruling on the prayer until October 8.
Osman Gani, a BNP leader and businessman from Aman's constituency, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on May 31.
The case statement says Gani came under a gun attack on Salimullah Road in Mohammadpur on May 29.
