Initiative underway to bring back killers of Bangabandhu
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni yesterday reiterated that the absconding killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be brought back to the country and tried.
“We have taken an initiative to bring back the killers of Bangabandhu hiding in different countries with the help of other related ministries and few local and international organisations,” she told reporters at Salimullah Muslim Hall at Dhaka University after addressing a discussion on the hall premises.
The hall unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League organised the discussion marking the 34th death anniversary of Bangabandhu.
The foreign minister hoped that they would be able to bring those absconding 'culprits' back to the country.
She said the real culprits of the August 21 grenade attack on an Awami League rally and those involved in the process of torturing DU teachers and students in connection with the August 20-22 campus unrest in 2007 would also be tried.
Speakers at the discussion demanded steps to start the hearing of Bangabandhu murder case in the Appellate Division immediately.
They also demanded that the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance government take necessary steps to bring back the fugitive killers to the country and try them.
The speakers called on the government to start the trial of war criminals in a special tribunal to fulfil its electoral pledges.
Awami League leaders BM Mozammel Haq and Aminul Islam, Proctor KM Saiful Islam, Provost GM Chowdhury, BCL leaders Mahmud Hasan Ripon, Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Rotan, Sohel Rana Tipu and Sajjad Sakib Badsha attended the discussion with hall unit President GM Sadit Jahan Saikat in the chair.
