‘CHWINGING’ BY A BRANCH … A female purple sunbird hangs around after a satisfying lunch from a pink hibiscus flower. A member of the sunbird family, it is found mainly in South and Southeast Asia. These vociferous birds will call on mobs, if they need to, to fight off predators. Their call is a rapid rattle followed by ringing, metallic notes. Other call notes include a “chwit” or “chwing”. A RARE SIGHT... The Mirpur road is almost devoid of traffic in the capital’s Kalyanpur area. Although offices have reopened following the Eid vacation, many of the city dwellers have apparently not returned from their home districts. The photo was taken around 11:00am yesterday. Photo: Palash Khan
