Man gets life for fratricide

A Habiganj court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his brother in 2008.
The convict is Ataur Rahman, 45, son of late Manik Miah of Daudpur village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district.
According to the prosecution, Ataur hit his younger brother Touhidur Rahman, 40, with a piece of bamboo, leaving him seriously injured following an altercation over a trivial matter on November 14 in 2008.
The following day, Touhidur succumbed to his injures at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
Father of the deceased then filed a case with Nabiganj police station, accusing Ataur. Police later arrested Ataur.
Manik Miah died during the trial in 2010. But the case was continued by the relatives, said sources.
