Joint secy Kashem sent into retirement

Yet another government official has lost his job for managing freedom fighter’s certificate through cheating, bringing the number of such bureaucrats to four.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) joint secretary Abul Kashem Talukder, whose war hero’s certificate was revoked after it was found fake, has been sent into retirement.
The official was sent on retirement for the sake of “public interest”, according to a gazette notification of the public administration ministry.
Under the Public Servant Act 1974, a government official may go on voluntary retirement or the government can sent him or her on retirement once the official completes 25 years in service.
On November 6, two secretaries tendered their resignations after their war hero's certificates were found fake and was thus revoked by the liberation war ministry.
They are MM Neaz Uddin Miah, who was health secretary and AKM Amir Hossain, who was public service commission secretary.
Sources in the government said both were asked to resign.
KH Masud Siddiqui, former secretary of the liberation war ministry, also resigned on October 31, after detection of his freedom fighter's certificate fake.
On October 13, the public administration ministry served show cause notices to the four asking why departmental action would not be taken against them for their alleged cheating. In response, they claimed they were indeed war heroes.
In its probe, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) found they unfairly obtained the certificates, bypassing relevant laws. The probe also found former state minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam used his unilateral power to illegally issue the certificates.
The anti-graft body recommended that the government take action for their misconduct.
The government has so far revoked war hero's certificates of 182 government officials for obtaining those through cheating.
