Jamaat calls hartal for tomorrow, Sunday
Jamaat-e-Islami has called countrywide hartal (shutdown) from 6:00am Thursday to 6:00am Friday and 6:00am Sunday to 6:00am Monday protesting the Supreme Court verdict that awarded war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee jail till death.
The SC today commuted Sayedee’s death sentence to imprisonment till death for his crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
The announcement of strike came as a part of Jamaat’s four-day protest programme following the verdict on Sayedee, said a press release signed by Jamaat acting ameer Moqbul Ahmed and acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman.
The other programmes include offering doa for Sayedee on Friday and countrywide demonstration on Saturday.
In the press release, Jamaat demands immediate release of Sayedee.
They also protested the SC verdict awarding him imprisonment till death in the “stage-managed and farcical case”.
