Diarrhoea cases rising due to heat, 15 dead so far in Noakhali
Fifteen people have died so far due to diarrhoea in the last 20 days in Noakhali.
About 10,000 people have been suffering from the disease in the same time and most of them are children and elderly people, according to doctors and sources at hospitals.
Sources at the civil surgeon's office said that the cases of diarrhoea have risen alarmingly in the district due to the excessive heat in the month of May. Among the district's nine upazilas, Hatiya, Subarnachar and Companiganj have been most affected by the disease this month.
More than 10,000 people have been admitted to nine upazila health complexes due to diarrhea till May 23. Three of them died in Noakhali Sadar, seven died in Chatkhil, two died in Subarnachar, two in Hatiya and one in Kabirhat, sources said.
Noakhali Civil Surgeon Dr Masum Iftekhair said people in Hatiya, Subarnachar and Companiganj upazilas have been suffering from diarrhoea due to lack of safe water and extreme heat.
Subarnachar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Shayela Sultana Jhuma said 1,056 people took admission to the upazila health complex while 2,033 diarrhoea patients have received treatment from the hospital till May 22.
