Airport Security: Govt official breaches it this time
A customs official went up the jetway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Monday night without authorisation.
An airport magistrate later fined her Tk 10,000.
Tohura Begum, who is on pre-retirement leave (PRL), entered the airport to see off her son heading for Australia. She showed her expired ID card, said a magistrate of the airport.
“She went up to the boarding bridge where only passengers and officials with valid security passes are allowed,” the magistrate said, adding that her ID card should have been handed over to customs authorities when she went on PRL.
The airport security personnel detained her for unauthorised entry and magistrate Ahmed Jamil fined her Tk 10,000, the official added.
Noor-e-Azam Mia, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, told The Daily Star that airport authorities first handed Tohura over to them. She was released after a magistrate fined her Tk 10,000.
On Sunday, police sub-inspector Ashiqur Rahman in uniform boarded a Bangkok-bound flight without any travel documents, said airport officials.
He was later handed over to Dhaka range police.
The flight was supposed to depart at 2:00am but had to be delayed for 30 minutes, said the officials.
