Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) busted a fake herbal medicine factory and arrested its owner in the district town yesterday.

The arrestee, Firoz Khan, 50, of Akur Takur Para area in the town, was later produced in a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Masum Reza.

The court sentenced the owner of the factory to seven days' imprisonment and fined him Tk 2 lakh, in default he is to suffer another six months in jail.

Acting on a tip-off, the elite force raided a house in the area and unearthed the fake herbal medicine factory there, said Mohiuddin Faruki, commander of Rab-12.

They also seized a huge amount of substandard sex stimulating herbal syrups and capsules from the spot. The medicines include Amloi Plus syrup, Lal Capsule, Jingsan Capsule, Entos Plus and Unique Laham.

Firoz Khan, owner of the factory, has been making the substandard drugs at the house of his father in-law in the town for long, said the commander.

The seized medicines were later destroyed in front of the magistrate, he said.
