Illegal structures under boundary of canals will be evicted: LGRD Minister

All the illegal structures which will fall under the boundary of canals in Dhaka city will be evicted, said Local Government Rural Development Minister Tazul Islam today.
The minister came up with the remark while inaugurating the works of setting up demarcation pillars of 29 canals and a regulator pond in Kallyanpur under Dhaka North City Corporation as the chief guest.
He said since getting the canals from Wasa, two city corporations mayors are working to recover the canals from encroachers under the direction of the LGRD ministry.
Tazul said the government had acquired 173 acres of land for a retention pond at Kallyanpur but all the lands, except three acres, were occupied.
"We will demolish all the illegal structures after setting up boundary pillars and will ensure waterflow here," said the minister.
Tazul said they have to work involving all the public representatives, government officials, and the public.
He said they have already recovered many canals, including Ramchandrapur canal, from encroachers and public representatives are also demolishing the illegal structures with the help of administration.
The minister said Bangladesh Army is trying their best to develop the country, and many big projects were implemented due to their overall cooperation.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, among others, also spoke at the programme.
