It was recently announced that renowned Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan will share the screen with eminent Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sayantan Mukherjee's upcoming web series.

The plot of the web series is based on the 1967 Naxalbari uprising, which was led by the Indian revolutionary leader, Charu Majumdar.

The web series is based on the book, "Shada Ami Kalo Ami" by former police officer Runu Guha Niyogi.

According to multiple reports, Abhijit Mazumdar, son of Charu Mazumdar, has complained that the book itself distorts the history of the Naxalbari movement and the police officer himself was controversial.

The character of Charu Majumdar will be played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, while the role of his wife, Lila Majumder will be played by Jaya Ahsan.

For many years, there were arguments and debates on the Naxalbari movement.

Abhijit Mazumdar, ML, Communist Party of India (CPI), Darjeeling, West Bengal, has allegedly posted about the matter in his social media account.

He mentioned that Sayantan Mukherjee did not contact him regarding the matter.

He also stated that there are over hundreds of books written that are based on the Naxalite movement, the director has chosen the one that contains a 'wrongful' interpretation of the movement.

The book portrays how a controversial police officer had described his 'bravery'. The officer arrested Charu Mazumdar, and after stopping all his medicines, was left to die. Thus piloting the story through the lens of such a heinous figure was sure to bring objections.

On the other hand, the story of the book does not contain Lila's character at all, so the director has to fictionalize the character, instead of doing proper research on her.

Hence, he believes that the people of Bengal will not accept this distortion of history.

According to an article by Indian publication Anandabazar, the director had said that the series will be shown from the eyes of the controversial police officer.

Abhijit also wrote, after the release of "Kalo Ami Shada Ami", a counter-book was published titled, "Shada Runu, Kalo Runu".

Prominent singer Moushumi Bhowmik also wrote on Facebook, highlighting the torture endured by Archana Guha. She reminisced about the days she went to court with Archana for a case that had been filed against Runu for torturing her physically.

"Archana, who could not walk anymore because of the torture raised her voice to get justice. It is sad that a web series is being made which does not reveal the truth!", wrote Bhowmik.

The singer believes that the web series will provoke people, instead of enlightening them.

Sayantan Mukherjee plans to initiate a three episode web series to showcase the story of the revolt.

The first episode will highlight the story from 1947 to 1972, while the second one will be based on 1972 to 1990. The last episode will be based on 1990 through the present day.

The shooting is planned to begin before Puja, next year.

There are plans to shoot the web series in Kolkata, Mumbai, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh as well as China and Russia.
