DU postpones political science evening course
The political science department of Dhaka University yesterday postponed the start of a newly launched evening programme after several left leaning student bodies protested the move terming it “commercialisation of education”.
The department Chairperson Prof Nurul Amin said they would take further decision after meeting with the vice chancellor.
A total of 60 students can enrol in the two-year master's programme for Tk 90,000.
Under the banner of “Students against evening course and commercialisation, DU unit”, the left students held a press conference at Madhur Canteen on the campus.
To commercialise the education, the university authorities earlier attempted to introduce evening programmes at different departments in the name of expanding education, they alleged. They announced to besiege the office of the social sciences faculty dean and forming of a human chain at Aparajeya Bangla tomorrow demanding cancellation of the evening programme.
