Buddha Purnima, the most significant religious festival for followers of Buddhism, was celebrated in Bandarban with devotion, rituals, and a ceremonial sprinkling of sandalwood water on the sacred Bodhi tree today.

On Sunday, special prayers, pujas, observance of the Eight Precepts (Ashta Shila), and religious discussions were held in various monasteries across the district, including the prominent Khyangwa Khyang or Rajguru Buddhist Monastery in the district town.

In the morning, hundreds of men, women, youth, and children gathered at the central Buddhist monastery in Bandarban to participate in the ceremonial sprinkling of sandalwood water at the base of the sacred Bodhi tree.

Carrying offerings, they poured water on the tree, lit incense and lamps, and paid tribute to the memory of the Buddha.
