Ctg railway taff, cops among 17 sued

Fourteen railway staff, two railway police and an Ansar member were sued yesterday on charge of beating up several Bangladesh Chhatra League activists at Chittagong Railway Station on August 27.

BCL the city unit Deputy Office Secretary Asraf Uddin Titu filed the case against the 17 and 10 to 15 unnamed people with a Chittagong court, said Quazi Sanowar Ahmed, lawyer of the plaintiff.

The court took cognisance of the case and ordered the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station to treat it as the first information report (FIR), he said.

The sued persons include Chittagong Government Railway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Yasin Faruk, Ansar member Emran, the Station Master Jafar Ahmed, the railway security guard Md Russel, and the station booking clerk Mohsin.

On August 27, a group of BCL leaders and activists of the unit had an altercation with the station master for their advance tickets as he suggested them to collect those from the black market.

Afterwards, the station master called the railway security guards, triggering a clash in which the guards injured three BCL activists, BCL sources said.
