Police constable stabbed by muggers during drive in Savar
A police constable was stabbed during a drive to nab criminals in Savar area early today.
Mohammad Rabbi, a constable of Savar Police Station, has been receiving treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital for wounds in the chest.
The incident happened around 2:00am when a police team carried out a raid at Anandapur area under Savar municipality after a transport worker made a complaint at emergency helpline number 999 about a mugging incident, said Saiful Islam, inspector (investigation) of Savar Police Station.
The complainant alleged that a group of people mugged Tk 5,300 and a mobile phone from him while he was on his way home, he said.
On information, the police team rushed to the spot and started a drive to arrest the muggers.
At one stage, one of the criminals, named Sabbir Hossain, stabbed the constable while trying to flee, leaving him critically injured.
Police later chased and arrested 10 persons including Sabbir from the spot.
They nine others arrestees are: Jahirul Islam, Lal Mia, Mohammad Ali, Rahim Babu, Rashed, Nazrul Islam, Al Amin, Kamal Hossain and Sujan Sikder.
A case was filed with the police station in this regard.
