Hathazari mayhem: Hefajat leader among two arrested in Ctg
Police today arrested two persons including a Hefajat-e-Islam leader and his associate from Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram in connection with the March 26 mayhem in Hathazari.
The arrestees are Hefajat's Hathazari municipality unit Assistant Dawah Secretary Aminul Islam (27) and Aftab Uddin Piayru (30), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting police.
"Aminul is accused in several cases filed at Hathazari Police Station over the mayhem. The duo was arrested early today," said Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Masum said.
"Few books and leaflets of Jamaat-e-Islam were also recovered from their possession," he added.
A total of 10 cases were filed with Hathazari Police accusing over 100 Hefajat leaders and BNP men including Hefajat Chief Junayed Babunagari over the March 26 violence, while more than 6,000 unidentified persons were also sued in the cases.
Four including three madrasa students were killed during the clash on March 26 in Hathazari.
