Pabna town under rainwater
Incessant rain in the last four days brought immense sufferings to townspeople as most of the areas in the municipality became waterlogged due to the lack of proper drainage system.
Residents of Shalgaria, Shibraqmpur, Dilalpur, Chatiyani, Housepara and other areas of the town could not go out of their houses for the last couple of days due to waterlogging.
Md Mostafizur Rahman Russel, a resident of Shalgaria, said waterlogging is a common problem in the area. Municipality authority, however, does not take any steps to remove waterlogging problem here.
Rainwater could not be removed from the area due to the lack of proper drainage system. Most of the drains got damaged due to the lack of maintenance, he said.
Not only the residential areas but also the key roads and markets of the municipality went under water due to incessant rain for the last few days. The roads include Awrangajeb road.
Similar picture is seen in Pabna Boro Bazar road, Nimtola road, Kalachandpara road, Beltola road, Ghoshpara road and other areas of the district headquarters.
Md Abul Kashem, owner of a shoe shop in Awrangajeb road area, said rainwater overflowed his shop and most of the shops of the market due to the waterlogging in the road.
Executive Engineer of the municipality Md Tabibur Rahman said this is a common problem in the rainy season.
The water will be removed within a few hours so there is nothing to be worried about, he said.
Asked about poor drainage system in the municipality area, Tabibur said the municipality is yet to get fund for constructing new drains and maintaining other drains.
