Youth jailed for sexually harassing woman on bus

A mobile court yesterday sentenced one youth to one month’s jail term and fined another Tk 5,000 for harassing a woman passenger on a bus on her way to Natore from Rajshahi.

The accused are: Mohammad Shaon, who was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, and Monir Hossain, who was fined Tk 5,000, reports our Natore correspondent.

The woman was returning home along with her husband from Rajshahi last night when in the crowded bus Shaon harassed her while Monir assisted him.

Later, the woman called national emergency number 999 to file a complaint.

Soon afterwards, a mobile court led by Jahangir Alam, executive magistrate and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Natore Sadar, along with police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel, raided the bus at Bonbelgharia on Natore-Rajshahi Highway and handed the punishment to the duo.
