Woman murdered, another drowns
A teenage housewife was found murdered in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur yesterday, while the body of a woman was recovered from a pond at Dariapara village in Panchagarh Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon the same day.
The victim in Dinajpur was Simu Akter, 19, daughter of Hamidul Islam of Chapaitor village in Bochaganj upazila.
Police detained Simu's husband Monir Hossain, 25, son of Imran Ali of Rail Colony area in the upazila, for interrogation.
Police, quoting Simu's family members, said she was married to Monir two years ago.
Simu's mother found her body near their house around 2:30am and informed police. Police recovered the body and sent it to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Bochaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahman said police found injury marks on her body. Police said the housewife was tortured to death and the body was left near her parental house.
A woman's body was found in a pond at Dariapara village in Panchagarh Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon yesterday.
The deceased was Arjina Khatun, 40, wife of Fahim Hossain of the village.
Arjina's family members said she went to throw leftover food into their pond adjacent to the house in the morning. A few minutes later, they saw her body floating in the pond, they said, adding that they took her to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Panchagarh Union Parishad Chairman Jahedul Haque told reporters that Arjina had suffered brain stroke a few days ago. When she went to dump surplus food into the pond she slipped and fell into the pond and drowned.
