Swechhasebak Dal leader murdered in Manikganj

Local AL activist led an attack following old enmity, alleges victim’s brother
murder

A local leader of Swechhasebak Dal has been stabbed to death in Singair upazila of Manikganj.

Ripon Hossain Lebu, was the assistant treasurer of Swechhasebak Dal’s Manikganj unit and a contractor by profession, our Manikganj correspondent reports.  

The 49-year-old leader of the pro-BNP party had been at logger heads with a local Awami League activist Haidar Ali over a road repair work, according to the victim’s brother Saiful Islam.

“Around 11:00am today, some 10/12 men led by Haider stabbed Ripon,” Saiful said.

“Some youths attacked Lebu behind the Baira Union Parishad office. Later locals rescued him and took him to the upazila health complex,” said Baira Union Parishad Chairman Dewan Jinnah.

Dr Sayeeda Bin Khan, a medical officer at Singair Upazila Health Complex, said that Ripon was brought dead at the hospital around 11:30am.

The body had been sent to the Manikganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Alamgir Hossain, senior assistant superintendent of police.

Police were looking into the murder, he added.
