Spring rain damages huge unbaked bricks
Spring rain since yesterday morning damaged huge quantities of raw bricks that were stacked up in the open fields for drying in different upazilas of the district.
Meanwhile, over 50 houses and at least 100 umbrellas, kept at Kuakata sea beach for the visitors, were badly damaged during the untimely rain accompanied by gusty winds.
Of the 50 houses, 20 were completely damaged while the rest 30 were damaged partially.
Besides, two madrasa houses in Sadar and Kalapara upazilas were partially damaged in the sudden rain that started yesterday early morning and continued till filing of this report as of 8:00pm.
Kalapara Upazila Parishad Chairman Motaleb Talukder said over 20 houses at Lalua village were completely damaged by the rain.
Besides, two tin-roofed houses of Bazarghona Fazil Madrasa in Sadar upazila and Musulliabad Fazil Madrasa in Kalapara upazila were badly damaged, he said.
Moreover, thousands of unbacked bricks kept for drying in at least 20 brickfields in different areas of the district were badly damaged.
Kalapara Radar Station recorded 13mm rainfall in the area in 6 hours since 6:00am yesterday, while at the same time, Patuakhali Met Office recorded 38.30mm rainfall.
Kalapara Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sumon Chandra Devnath said they asked all union parishad chairmen concerned to submit lists of damaged houses and other business structures so that they can take necessary steps in this regard.
